DIY Farmhouse Measuring Spoon Hanger

Anyone else hate digging through your drawers to find your measuring spoons and measuring cups? I do!

I’ve never been very good at keeping all of my measuring spoons/cups together on the little, metal rings they come attached to. Even when they are all properly put away, it annoys me to detach them from the rings. Maybe I’m weird, but I decided to do something about it.

Here is my “DIY, Farmhouse Measuring Spoon Hanger!” It’s cute, simple to make, and the best part is, everything I need for measuring is much more easily accessible 🙂

If you’d like to make one yourself, keep on reading!

Materials:
* Chicken Wire Frame– I found mine on Amazon. It came as a pack of two for $17. The mounting hooks were already attached as well.
*White paint
*A colorless/scentless candle
*An old rag
*3/4″ S hooks
*A mini chalkboard sign- I found mine at the dollar store

Tools:
*Hot Glue Gun/Glue Sticks
*Pliers

Step 1- Wax On

Note: If you do not want your frame to look old and weathered, skip this step completely

Set your frame down on an old towel or newspaper; anything that keeps your work area from getting dirty with wax and paint.

Next, you are going to rub candle wax over the wood surface of your fame. Try to strategically place the wax where you want the wood to look weathered. I usually focus on the edges because that’s where paint naturally chips and weathers over time. Keep in mind, anywhere you add wax will be where your paint rubs off later.

Step 2- Paint

Paint your entire frame. I used white but you could really paint it any color you want!

Let the paint dry completely. You may want to do a second coat of paint. I liked that some of the wood grain was showing through, so I opted for one coat. It’s totally up to you.

Step 3- Wax Off

Note: If you do not want your frame to look old and weathered, skip this step completely

Once your paint it completely dry, it’s time to rub off the wax that you added earlier.

Take your old rag and rub with pressure on any spots where you placed wax. The paint is going to rub off, showing the wood underneath. This gives your frame those adorable, weathered farmhouse vibes!

Here’s how my fame looked after one coat of white paint, and wiping off the wax.

Step 4- Add Your Mini Chalkboard Sign

For this step, simply write “measure” on your chalkboard sign, and hot glue it where you want it.

Note: The chalkboard signs I found at the dollar store had little wooden clips on the back. I just broke off the clip so that my mini sign would lay flat against my frame.

Step 5- Add Your Hooks

I had a hard time finding these for some reason. I checked Walmart and Home Depot first, but couldn’t find the right size. Finally, I found these at True Value.

Set your hooks out on your frame. Experiment with where you want them by trying out your measuring spoons and cups. Once you’ve figured out where you want everything, use your pliers to pinch the back of the hook. This will attach it to your chicken wire frame.

Here’s how I decided to lay out my measuring spoons/cups.
This picture shows all of the hooks attached.

After that, it’s ready to hang, and display your measuring spoons!

The finished product!

Hello! I'm Megan, the author of Home and Holidecor. I am a wife, mama, and interior decorator. Whether I am decorating inside of a home, an outdoor space, or decorating for a party/event, making a space look beautiful and special is what I love to do. To me, decorating is an art form. How you decorate your home, tells your personal and family story. Decorations at your wedding tell your love story. Your dream backyard or garden reveals your personal oasis. I think that's why I love it so much because it's almost like writing a story with furniture, paint, light fixtures, and picture frames. “Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love,” – Nate Berkus.
